Hein-Matlock scrapbooks, 1904-1940

Two scrapbooks compiled by Gertrude B. (Downey) Hein, one consisting chiefly of letters, typescript poems, and newspaper columns, all written by Hein's sister, Belle Angstadt, of Priest River and Coolin, Idaho; and the second consisting mainly of photos of friends and family, including Belle Angstadt and her friend, filmmaker Nell Shipman, who made silent films at Priest Lake, Idaho. The first scrapbook also contains clippings relating to the activities of Hein and her husband, Dr. Ernst T. Hein; the second contains many photos taken in and around Priest Lake.

Nell Shipman's life in show business began on the repertory and vaudeville stages and spanned the eras of silent film, radio, the talkies, and television. She toured with the likes of Jesse Lasky, Paul Gilmore, Dick Sutton, and Charles A.
